أعلن جو بايدن، رئيس الولايات المتحدة، يوم الثلاثاء الثالث من مهر، أنه يعتزم التبرع بمليون جرعة من لقاح جدري القرود إلى الدول الإفريقية التي تواجه انتشار هذا الفيروس

أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية الشهر الماضي حالة طوارئ دولية بعد زيادة حالات الإصابة بنوع جديد من جدري القرود في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية والذي انتشر أيضاً إلى الدول المجاورة

قال بايدن في الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في نيويورك: الآن يجب أن نتحرك بسرعة لمواجهة تفشي جدري القرود في إفريقيا. نحن مستعدون لتخصيص 500 مليون دولار لمساعدة الدول الإفريقية في مجال مكافحة والوقاية من هذا المرض

طلب بايدن من الدول الأخرى الانضمام إلى هذا الالتزام لرفع حجم المساعدات إلى مليار دولار
