Abbas Abdi: Everything is in favor of the current government
Abbas Abdi states that the circumstances for the two governments in most indicators are in favor of the current government. As a result, it is expected that its performance would be better in line with these conditions, but reality shows otherwise; it has been less successful in almost all cases.
The Rouhani administration, until five days before the end of its term, faced the toughest sanctions from Trump, sanctions that, according to government insiders, were not comparable to those during the Obama era.
During Obama’s term, they even sometimes taught third countries ways to bypass the sanctions so that the pressure wouldn’t be too high, but this wasn’t the case during Trump’s term, to the extent that oil sales sometimes dropped to 300,000 barrels per day.
From the beginning of Bahman 1399 (January 2021) with Biden’s arrival, the sanctions were relatively eased to pave the way for an agreement, and this has continued up to now. Therefore, the sanctions situation between the two governments is in favor of the current government. Additionally, the increase in oil prices also benefits this government.
