Intense security atmosphere in Sanandaj coinciding with Ebrahim Raisi’s visit
Coinciding with the visit of Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, to Kurdistan, images and reports from Sanandaj indicate that a security atmosphere has taken over the city.
Ebrahim Raisi has traveled to Sanandaj to inaugurate government projects at a time when Kurdish regions of Iran have been among the main centers of nationwide protests over the past 10 weeks and have faced widespread crackdown by security forces. Additionally, alongside extensive media propaganda about this visit, widespread arrests continue across the country, and according to estimates under review by the HRANA news agency, the number of arrests has exceeded 18,000.
