Possibility of Iran and India reaching an agreement on the development of Chabahar Port

The Mint India newspaper, citing informed sources, has reported that Iran and India are negotiating further development of Chabahar Port and are likely to sign a new agreement by September, the beginning of autumn.

According to this report, published on Friday, August 27th, after years of negotiations, it is expected that Iran and India will reach a multi-year agreement, under which India will develop the Shahid Beheshti terminal at Chabahar Port and assume long-term management of it.

The Chabahar development contract was signed in 2016 between India’s Global Ports company and Iran’s Arya Bandar company, and under it, India developed a part of Chabahar Port.

An official from the Indian Ministry of Ports told the newspaper that the details of the long-term contract will be finalized in August and will likely be signed by both parties in September.

India and Iran have currently extended the contract for the development and management of Chabahar Port by Delhi for another year, but India is seeking to sign a 10-year long-term contract for the management of this port.
