Security Agencies Threatened Protesters and Journalists to Prevent Coverage of Protests

Security agencies threatened protesters and journalists to prevent coverage of the protests.

As protests spread in Iran, reports have emerged of some protesters, civil activists, and journalists being summoned through anonymous phone calls and text messages. These actions, according to sources, aim to prevent stances on elections and limit media coverage of the protests.

Marzieh Mohabi, a lawyer, wrote on the social network X that these messages are sent to everyone whose mobile phone has been identified in the vicinity of gatherings, and they have no legal value or credibility and do not have any legal effect.

Addressing the recipients of these messages, she added that the judicial system of the Islamic Republic lacks legitimacy, is corrupt, and is unreliable, and no one knows what will happen to them after attending. Therefore, do not pay attention even to official summons.

There have also been reports of some journalists being summoned and asked for written commitments to refrain from taking stances and producing content on social networks about the protests. According to sources, some of these journalists have been threatened with arrest if they ignore these demands.

Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) recently condemned the actions of Iranian security agencies in summoning and threatening journalists amid nationwide protests.

According to this committee’s report, after recent statements by Ali Khamenei regarding the crackdown on protests, calls have been made to journalists, and some have been summoned to security agencies, including the Revolutionary Guard.

CPJ has called on the Iranian government to immediately end the intimidations aimed at silencing independent reporting during critical moments.
